Timber Strength Class C30: Properties and Uses
Strength class C30 timber carries a characteristic bending strength of 30 newtons per square millimeter. These are the numbers structural design starts from.
Characteristic bending strength: 30 N/mm²
| Strength class | C30 |
| Characteristic bending strength | 30 N/mm² |
| Mean elastic modulus | 12 GPa |
| Characteristic density | 380 kg per cubic meter |
| Typical source | selected softwood, glulam laminations |
Notes for design and site
C30 appears where softwood is pushed hard: engineered floor systems, heavily loaded rafters, and as laminations inside glulam beams. At this class, connections rather than the timber usually govern, so detail the bolts and hangers with the same care as the member sizes.
