S275 Structural Steel: Yield Strength and Properties
S275 Structural Steel has a specified minimum yield strength of 275 megapascals. The numbers below are the ones design and site work reach for.
Minimum yield strength: 275 MPa
| Minimum yield strength | 275 MPa |
| Minimum tensile strength | 410 to 560 MPa |
| Elongation | at least 23 percent |
| Density | 7,850 kg per cubic meter |
| Elastic modulus | 200 to 210 GPa |
| Typical use | general building steelwork |
Notes for design and site
S275 was the default of building steelwork for decades and remains a comfortable choice where deflection or fatigue governs and extra yield strength would go unused. Availability now favors S355 in many markets, so check what the stockholder actually carries before the drawings commit.
