Rotate a PDF
Turn pages the right way up. Rotate the whole document, or pick out the pages that came in sideways and fix only those. The pages are copied rather than redrawn, so nothing loses quality. Nothing is uploaded.

A page already knows which way it faces
Rotation is stored on the page itself rather than baked into the content, and it is often not zero to begin with. Turning by a quarter adds to what was already there, which is why a page at 270 comes back to upright rather than landing on 360.
How to use this tool
Drop a PDF on the box at the top. Every page appears as a thumbnail so you can see which way each one is facing, and all of them start selected.
Use turn left and turn right under the pages to rotate them a quarter at a time. With nothing selected those buttons turn the whole document; select a few pages first and they turn only those. Each thumbnail also carries its own turn control, which is quicker when one page alone is wrong.
Rotation is a property, not a redraw
This is why rotating a PDF costs nothing in quality, and it surprises people who expect it to work like rotating a photograph.
A PDF page carries a rotation value alongside its content. Changing it tells every reader to display the page a quarter turn round; the text, the vectors and the images underneath are not touched at all. So the text stays selectable, a drawing stays a drawing, and the file barely changes size.
The consequence worth knowing is that the existing value is frequently not zero. A page scanned sideways and already corrected once sits at 90 or 270. Turning it by a further quarter adds to what was there rather than replacing it, which is why a page at 270 comes back to upright rather than landing on 360.

The turn buttons add a quarter each press, so pressing right twice is the same as half a turn. If you would rather ignore whatever was there and force every selected page to the same value, switch what to do to set an exact angle. Turn every selected page upright is the third option, and the one to reach for on a mixed scan.
A worked check you can repeat
Take a five page document whose pages sit at 0, 90, 180, 270 and 0. Press turn right once with nothing selected and they become 90, 180, 270, 0 and 90. The fourth page wrapped rather than reaching 360, and the summary reports five pages changed.
Now set them all to an exact 0 instead. Three pages change and two were already there, so the summary says three. That difference between selected and actually changed is the number worth reading before you build.
Turn upright works on the shape as displayed rather than the raw dimensions. A portrait page sitting at 90 is displayed as landscape, so it needs a further quarter turn to 180 even though its underlying width is smaller than its height.
The planning was checked against an independent implementation before publishing: thirty seven hand written cases covering full turns, negative turns, angles beyond a full circle, values that are not multiples of ninety, and pages that already carry a rotation. Then sixty thousand generated cases confirming that every result is one of the four legal angles, that a page outside the selection is never altered, that the reported change count always matches what actually changed, that four quarter turns return a page to where it started, and that turning upright always produces a page taller than it is wide.
Mistakes that catch people out
Assuming every page starts at zero. Scanned documents often do not. The angle shown under each thumbnail tells you what is really there.
Rotating everything when only a few pages are wrong. With nothing selected the turn buttons apply to the whole document. Select the sideways ones first, or use the turn control on the single page that needs it.
Expecting the content to move. The page is displayed turned; the text inside keeps its own orientation relative to the page, which is what you want.
Turning a page that was already correct. The summary shows how many pages will actually change. If that number is zero, nothing needs doing.
Assuming a password protected file will open. It will not. Remove the protection first, in software that has the password.
Common questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened by your browser, the rotated document is built here on the page, and the download comes from your machine. Nothing crosses the network.
Does rotating reduce the quality?
No. Rotation is recorded as a property of the page rather than redrawing anything, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.
Why did a quarter turn not land on 360?
Because a page already carries a rotation of its own. Turning by 90 a page already at 270 brings it back to upright, which is 0, not 360.
What does turn upright do?
It looks at the shape of each selected page as it is currently displayed and turns any that are wider than they are tall. Pages already upright are left alone.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes. Click any page to select or deselect it, then use turn left or turn right. Select the sideways ones picks out every landscape page in one go, and each thumbnail has its own turn control for fixing a single page.
Will bookmarks and links survive?
Yes. Unlike splitting, this edits the existing document in place rather than building a new one, so the document structure is preserved.
