#7 Rebar
A quiet middle child: #7 shows up when #6 runs out and #8 is overkill, mostly in beams and moderate columns.
7/8 inch diameter, 0.60 in2, 2.044 lb per foot
| Nominal diameter | 7/8 in (22.2 mm) |
| Cross section area | 0.60 in2 (387 mm2) |
| Weight | 2.044 lb per foot (3.042 kg per meter) |
| Typical grade | Grade 60, 60 ksi yield |
| Soft metric name | No. 22 |
| 20 ft stock bar | about 41 lb |
| Nearest Canadian bar | 20M, with 25M above |
Notes for design and site
The 0.60 in2 area makes the arithmetic pleasant: five bars give an even 3.0 in2, and that kind of round package is why designers reach for it in beam bottoms and column verticals when the numbers refuse to work out in #6 or #8.
Rough lap at 40 diameters is 35 inches, and a 20 ft stick is past 40 pounds: crews still hand carry it, but placement in congested cages is where the day goes. Metric name: No. 22.
