Free Online Borehole Log Creator: Soil Profile and Boring Log

Report
Enter each layer's bottom depth, soil type, and SPT N value; leave unused rows blank. The log draws to scale, marks the layer holding the water table, and prints as a clean field record. Descriptions follow USCS group names, the shared language of every geotechnical report.

A site's biography in one column

Every investigation ends in the same drawing: a strip of colored soil layers against a depth scale, blow counts alongside, water table marked. The tool above draws it live from your entries. Give each layer a bottom depth, a USCS soil type, and an SPT N value, set the water table, and the log renders to scale with the layer holding the groundwater flagged. The print button produces a clean tabular field record. The demo profile tells the classic story: loose fill, decent sand, then soft marine clay hiding beneath, over rock.

Depth, soil, water, and blow counts: the one-column drawing every foundation decision comes back to.

Within the Geotechnical Site Investigation Suite, this is the deliverable: the CPT and classification tools generate the interpretations, and the log is where they line up against depth.

What a good log shows at a glance

  • The N value trajectory tells the strength story faster than words: 5 to 22 to 4 to refusal reads as fill, bearing layer, problem, and target.
  • The water table drives everything below it: effective stresses, excavation dewatering, and whether that sand ever liquefies.
  • The layer under the bearing layer matters most: shallow footings stopping in good sand still settle into soft clay beneath, which is why logs go deeper than foundations.
  • Consistent USCS naming lets a log drawn on this site be read on any other.

What this tool is for

Sketching a log from field notes before the formal report exists, teaching students to read stratigraphy, and producing quick comparison profiles between boreholes. Contract logs add sampler types, recovery, and lab callouts on the same skeleton this tool draws.
