10M Rebar
The lightest standard Canadian bar, and the one that holds everything else in position: stirrups, ties and temperature steel are mostly 10M.
11.3 mm diameter, 100 mm2, 0.785 kg per meter
| Nominal diameter | 11.3 mm |
| Cross section area | 100 mm2 |
| Mass per meter | 0.785 kg |
| Standard grade | 400W, 400 MPa yield |
| 6 m stock bar | about 4.7 kg |
| Bars per tonne, 6 m lengths | about 212 |
| Nearest US bar | between #3 and #4 |
Notes for design and site
Almost none of the 10M on a site is flexural steel. It is the bar that shapes and confines the others: stirrups in beams, ties in columns, and crack control steel in slabs and walls. At 0.785 kg per meter a 6 m stick weighs under 5 kg, light enough to bend and place all day, which is exactly why it gets those jobs.
A rough tension lap at 40 bar diameters is about 450 mm, but stirrups and ties are anchored by hooks rather than laps, so the numbers that matter more in practice are the CSA hook dimensions and minimum bend diameters, which a bar bending schedule works out bar by bar.
